The Cow: prologue

kNOwBOX dance Film Festival 2022

Official Selection Film Spotlight

The Cow: prologue

'00:09:11 / Camécuaro, Michoacan and Teuchitlán, Jalisco, México

Four protectors of nature dance the properties of the elements and celebrate their meeting to remember our bond with nature.

How do you think your film relates to the NBFF 2022 Theme 'Dancing Around the World'?

Our short film is an example of the work that is being produced in videodances in Guadalajara, Mexico. In the story, the characters as well as their dance take inspiration from African dances and Japanese butoh. I think that is something very beautiful when creating a dance, creating a multicultural language that can be spoken in different parts of the world.

What do you hope to communicate with our audience through your work?

We want to talk about the relationship that humans have with nature and our own nature. We do not seek to express an explicit message, instead we seek to provoke some sense of personal "crisis" caused by what viewers can see in our film, questions such as: What is the relationship as humans with our natural environment? What is the nature of man? And what are our instincts?

Michel´s work has mainly focused on clown and dance. He began his studies at the Vancouver Circus School in Canada. Afterwards, he studied a diploma in cinema at the University of Guadalajara and performing arts at the Secretary of Culture in Mexico. And in dance with masters such as: Emmanuel Grivet (France), Rhea Volij (Argentina), Sheerwood Chen (USA), Katsura Kan (Japan) and Alfonsina Riosantos (Mexico). He directs "Claunódromo", a company dedicated to the scenic creation from the platform of clown in its crossings with other artistic disciplines.
